Suffolk born and bred, Mary was elected County Councillor for Clare in 2013 where she chairs the Scrutiny Committee. She trained as a journalist on the East Anglian Daily Times before becoming a political correspondent at Westminster. She returned home to Suffolk in 2004 and soon became involved in her local community leading the campaign to save and upgrade the village hall. In her work as a county councillor she has focussed on helping rural communities remain sustainable as well as assisting them to tackle speeding traffic by funding the purchase of vehicle activated signs to be shared across a network of villages.
