Brook – Deborah Richards

Candidate for Brook Division
  • County Council Candidates

Deborah has lived and worked in Ipswich since 2007. She has five adult children and four grandchildren, and holds a deep commitment to protecting the environment and the surrounding countryside from inappropriate development, including solar and battery farms, pylons and unsuitable housing.

As a Suffolk County Councillor since 2021, representing St Margaret's and Westgate Division in north Ipswich, Deborah has built a reputation for getting things done. From filling potholes and resurfacing pavements to installing street lighting in poorly lit areas and securing double yellow lines at dangerous junctions, she has delivered practical improvements for local residents. She has also served as Deputy Cabinet Member for SEND and currently holds the position of Deputy Cabinet Member for Archaeology and Environmental Partnerships, a role she finds genuinely rewarding.

This May, Deborah is standing in Brook Division on the west side of Ipswich for the County Council elections. Her survey of Brook residents earlier this year confirmed that they share her priorities: protecting the countryside from overdevelopment, and above all, fixing the roads. Filling in potholes came out as residents' clear top concern, and it will be at the heart of her campaign.
