We are sad to report the death of Nayland member Mary Fairhead OBE, on May 18th at the age of 94. Mary lived in Nayland for many years, but it is for work as a Colchester Councillor and Mayor of Colchester that she is most remembered. She became a Councillor in 1976 and was Colchester’s Mayor in 1995 and 1996. Mary was awarded her OBE by Queen Elizabeth in 1990 at Buckingham Palace.
Mary Fairhead discovered Myland Hall as the location for St Helena Hospice and volunteered on the Hospice’s Council of Management for 17 years.
She will be remembered for her many years of dedicated public service and as an enthusiastic supporter of Branch events.
